'How to develop us' was result of San Fran career conference

Comment on this Post On Sept. 19-29, SheJumps co-hosted a special first-of-its-kind event with The Stone Clinic in San Francisco. The Pro Women Athlete's Career Conference drew some of the top agents, journalists, publicists, and athletes in the country to learn from each other and raise the bar for women in sport. It was a hit, but you don't need to hear that from me (SheJumps co-founder), but one of the participants who happened to be a male. Adam Ticknor is an expert in body, mind, and spirit. Here's what he had to say .. I was one of the token males at the all-women’s athletic conference and as fun as that sounds it was better than that. These women were amazing and inspiring. They defined what women are. They came together to facilitate the development of women. They came together to show what women really are, strong, beautiful, graceful, loving and nuturing. The whole weekend was about the development of female athletes. It wasn’t about skiers, snowboarders, racecar drivers, paddlers, rowers, ballerinas, or cyclists; sure they were there, but that was not what it was about. There were two reasons they got together: First, it was a group of successful women getting together to advise new athletes how to develop their careers. Secondly, it was about creating a network of women to be able to rely on—a sisterhood. It was about showing young women what to expect. It was a download of what to do and how to do it. These women brought together tremendous lecturers from so many different arenas. Unbelievably the speakers spoke honestly, candidly and for the same reason to help these women. There were high profile agents, writers, athletes, and all of them opened up and were not only approachable but honest, and giving insight on how things work. Women have something men don’t, had this been a conference for men there would have been sloppy drinking and all night partying, but it didn’t show up here. Women have the ability to focus and become responsible for developing themselves. Not once did I see a woman moving from entitlement and "what can you do for me," it was "what can I learn to do for me." In truth, it was about what can I learn to develop us. This whole project shows what women bring to the sport. Men will always huck more, higher and more aggressively but women will have more grace style and flair. This project is what shejumps is all about. So women, on behalf on all men keep it up and I hope that I am invited to the next conference.
