She Jumps Away

Comment on this Post Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketWait! Careful! Before you run away and jump with that headline, read it! It's that time of year. Day one of September, Cody Barnhill and I started high-fiving and feeling the crispness descend upon us, or maybe we rose to meet it. Leaves are falling. Temperatures are falling. Ski movie premieres are happening. Anxiety is rising! This is the first summer I have ever spent below 7,000 feet or in a big city. After graduating in the spring I felt a new level of involvement in the world around me when I got a job teaching French to kids this summer. Portland has been incredible for showing me a very creative and exciting community of bikers, tattoo artists, and hipsters (if you don't know, don't ask!). Besides the elevation, the fixed-gear bikes, and random neighborhood rose gardens this summer has been different for other reasons: Here at SheJumps we have decided it's time to revamp. Portland has, for this reason, been the best place to gather resources and redefine what it is we aim to accomplish as Jumpers. So where do you come in? You, our loyal, supportive, responsive — most likely equally insane — counterpart? Read on ... SheJumps is about to go really big. Like Lynsey's sweet double-drop last season meets Vanessa's undying passion for dreaming and creating meets (for lack of a better description) Simon DuMont in the half pipe kind of big! SHEJUMPS will soon be an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Why? Because we want to find the other courageous, willing, and powerful women who have dreams and help them come true! We want to live, love, thrive, create, and inspire in the process! Tax forms are the next logical step in our goal to see life happen on a higher level for all of us. We will soon be writing up the bylaws and getting our acts together to hold several fundraisers this season. If you have an idea of an event for us, have specific things that you would like to see incorporated into the SheJumps philosophy, or feel inclined to make a tax-deductible donation to help the mission, please e-mail us at info@shejumps.com. We want to hear what you, the inspirational dreams, have cooking — on the stove, cooling in the fridge, or wafting through the air. My plans? Move to Utah and ski EVERYDAY! Watch SheJumps take the world by storm! Ski on the North American Freeskiing Tour! Get a first descent! Have as much fun as possible! What are YOUR big plans for this season? GO BIG!!!! I met a man in Senegal once named Elimane. He told me that most people never prepare themselves for success. When the opportunity comes to strive and shine, we are prepared to do the action, and although we may do it well, we are not prepared to actually succeed and it is for that reason that today, right now, I do not ask you what your dreams are, but rather WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS!? Come on! Let's hear 'em!
