Last week, Jumper Jen Hoffman – who works for Ballantines PR based in L.A. – came to Jackson for work. Jen discovered my pogos, and just like me, she got hooked. Below is a blurb from her column in the Albuquerque Journal about why everyone needs to get a Flybar for fun and fitness. (Photo by Lynsey Dyer)
"On a recent business trip to Jackson, Wyo.," Hoffman writes in the Journal, "I was expecting only a brief glance at the Tetons from the plane, maybe a quick hike. Instead, after the meetings were done, I found myself bouncing down the street on a pogo stick with Vanessa Pierce, a writer, athlete and the brain behind www.shejumps.com, a site devoted to inspiring active women.
The first ever pogo stick was invented in 1918 by SBI Enterprises in Ellenville, N.Y. Eighty-seven years later, after selling millions of its pogos, SBI was approached by Bruce Middleton, an MIT-trained physicist and inventor who had ideas on how to update the standard pogo to modern standards. Rubber springs replaced the old steel ones, a new synthetic outer shell replaced the wood, and the Flybar 1200 was born. The reinvention of this classic toy is finding its way into the hearts of athletes everywhere, including sports aficionados like Pierce, who are looking for exciting and fun new ways to cross train."
